Strategy

A key pillar in our strategy is for our products to create social impact in society. A satellite strategy cannot be complete unless your products are not bringing value at a social level. As a Product Manager if you are interested in maximizing the value for your customers, check out the value pyramid https://media.bain.com/elements-of-value/

Charity

A charity event we look forward to supporting and attending every year is the FJPL cricket charity https://falconsjrsportsclub.com/fjpl-for-a-cause/

The Falcons Jr Cricket Club run by co-owners Vikram Dayalu and Anup Nair organize this event every year in the fall after the official cricket season is over in the New Jersey Area. All the proceeds from the event are directly transmitted to a registered non-profit (501c3) organization Sadhana Sangama Vidyalaya. Located in rural Karnataka, just under 100 km from Bangalore, Sadhana Sangama Vidyalaya is invested in education for kids from a remote village in Karnataka, India. They have faced ongoing challenges with reliable internet and cell phone services. Pre-COVID, the school's strong campus resources and dedicated faculty helped mitigate these issues. However, the pandemic halted in-person instruction for all grades K-10.

Despite the difficulties, the school administration made a crucial decision to retain teachers with full salaries during the pandemic. This strategy ensured that core faculty, particularly for grades 8-10, remained to support students, especially those preparing for board exams.

Innovatively, the school adopted WhatsApp for education, allowing teachers to share recorded lessons. While internet access remains a challenge, students can access materials when parents travel to areas with better coverage. Efforts are underway to improve internet connectivity to the school. Funding has also been vital; collaborations with Sadhana Sangama International and Falcons Jr Club have raised nearly $10,000 to support the school's operations, which total around $30,000 annually.

Funding can be done in many different ways, the Falcon Jr Cricket Club decided to employ a fun way where they can get the community to engage and donate wholeheartedly. They organize a cricket tournament. FJPL for a Cause, as the name suggests is a Level 2 tournament that is organized in an IPL (Indian Premier League) https://www.iplt20.com style format.

Cricket

The Cricket Tournament is organized over two weekends. There are 6 teams that have team owners who are given a set of points and each of the participating player are assigned a set of points, based on skill level. The team owners “buy” a team by contributing the cost of owning a team for the Cause. The players “pay” a fees for the Cause to participate in the tournament.

The team owners go through a snake draft to pick players that they like to include in their team based on skill level. The teams then compete with each other over two weekends and there are two trophies awarded: Winner and Runner up.

Passion

Concepts and Beyond Inc as an organization has participated in many charity events such as these from its inception in 2018. We deliver professional certification training and we pick several classes in a year that we inform the students that all proceeds will go to a charity, be it cancer, pain management or furthering eduction. Our strategy is to continue to find and amplify social impact through our product offerings.

A second passion of mine is watching and playing the game of Cricket. Obviously what the Falcon Jr Club does every year aligns very well with our company strategy. Partnering with a good friend of mine Mitesh Panchal we have been supporting this event every year as co-owners of the CNB Astras Cricket Team.

This allows both of us to bring our family together along with families of every team member that were allocated in our team and provide a memorable and competitive experience.

2025 was another memorable year in our journey we became team owners and supported the event. 2023 we had won the tournament and this year we received the runners up trophy

AI

In this newsletter I share my experiments with Product Strategy and how AI has helped me augment my product . This article brings our Strategy, Charity, Passion and AI together.

Once the draft picks and the schedule was officially announced we had to create our strategy against every team we play. We had access to player in the tournament and their historical statistics. The players in a team are of different age groups with 3-4 members being junior aged 10 - 12 and the rest are seniors between 12 - 15 years old. This year the rules were strongly skewed in favor of ensuring each junior gets to play and they have the most advantage when they bat or bowl. In fact if a senior is facing a junior they play with a disadvantage.

With the limited time we had to come up with a strategy and having acquired a brand new team while playing against a newly formed team, we had to come up with a strategy.

This is where I turned to Claude Model Sonnet 4.5. I first uploaded the rule book and then the list of our team and our opposing team player names, their historical statistics and their primary and second skills.

I then used the prompt

You are a level three ICC cricket coach who is coaching our team you have to analyze strategies against other teams. Think step by step to break down the problem. Our team is called CNB Astras. Our team is added to the project folder. The rules are also in the project folder. The Statistics are also in the team list. We are playing Drona Arrows and I have added their list to this chat. Now I like you to compare the two teams in CNB Astras team and Drona Arrows Teams and review the rules senior vs junior and share a batting line up for the CNB Astras

In the prompt I asked Claude to be verbose and the output was as below

I'll begin by reading the FJPL for a Cause Rule Book to fully understand the tournament rules and then analyze both team rosters to develop a strategic batting lineup for CNB Astras against Drona Arrows.

I need to view the CNB Astras team spreadsheet from the project folder to analyze the team composition

Now let's examine the Drona Arrows team information and get a better understanding of the tournament rules.

I need to view the Drona Arrows team spreadsheet to understand the opposition

Let's first view the tournament rules from the PDF document in the project folder:

I need to view the FJPL for a Cause Rule Book to understand the tournament rules

Since we are working with a PDF file that isn't being displayed correctly in the view output, let's extract the information from the PDF file we just saw in the context window.

Now I need to analyze the team rosters to understand the composition of both teams. First, let's create files with the extracted team data to make analysis easier.

Creating a file for the extracted tournament rules to reference during analysis

tournament_rules.txt

Now, let's extract and analyze the team data for both CNB Astras and Drona Arrows.

Creating a directory for team analysis files

bash

mkdir -p /home/claude/team_analysis

Output

exit code 0

Let's use a Python script to extract the team data from the Excel files:

Creating a Python script to extract team data from Excel files

extract_teams.py

Now, let's use this script to extract data from both team files:

Extracting CNB Astras team data

bash

python /home/claude/extract_teams.py /mnt/project/CNB_Astras.xlsx /home/claude/team_analysis/cnb_astras_data.txt

Output

Successfully extracted data to /home/claude/team_analysis/cnb_astras_data.txt

Extracting Drona Arrows team data

bash python /home/claude/extract_teams.py /mnt/user-data/uploads/Drona_Arrows.xlsx /home/claude/team_analysis/drona_arrows_data.txt

Output

Successfully extracted data to /home/claude/team_analysis/drona_arrows_data.txt

Let's check the extracted team data:

Viewing the CNB Astras team data

Viewing the Drona Arrows team data

Now, let's create a comprehensive analysis of both teams based on the tournament rules:

Creating a detailed team comparison analysis

team_comparison.txt

Based on our analysis, let's now prepare a strategic batting lineup recommendation for CNB Astras:

Creating a strategic batting lineup recommendation for CNB Astras against Drona Arrows

CNB_Astras_Batting_Lineup.txt

Now let's create a detailed bowling strategy as well:

Creating a strategic bowling plan for CNB Astras against Drona Arrows

CNB_Astras_Bowling_Strategy.txt

Finally, let me summarize my overall recommendation for CNB Astras against Drona Arrows:

Creating an executive summary with key strategies for CNB Astras against Drona Arrows

Some of key strategic insights that it shared were very valuable ( I removed the player names on purpose)

  1. Leverage your junior players strategically:Position Junior Batsman 1 and Junior Batsman 2 to exploit the double run advantage Use Junior Bowler 1 and Junior Bowler 2 as bowlers to force Drona's senior batters to reverse stance. Ensure a junior batter is available for the 7th over to potentially score quadruple runs
  2. Batting strategy:Start strong with Senior Batsman 1 l and junior Batsman 1. Position juniors strategically throughout the order. Target the 7th over for maximum scoring with a junior batter
  3. Bowling strategy:Begin with junior bowlers to force stance reversal from Drona's senior batters. Use your elite bowler for the crucial 7th over. Create specific plans for Drona's exceptional junior batters
  4. Key advantage: Your team has 4 junior players compared to Drona's 3, giving you more tactical flexibility in both batting and bowling.

This comprehensive strategy aims to maximize your team's strengths while exploiting the tournament rules, particularly regarding junior player advantages against seniors.

We used a variety of strategies including the ones suggested by Claude to win. But one thing we did not do is feed the results of each match that we played and the statistics of each player and how they performed in this tournament for Claude to receive a feedback loop. If I did that I believe it would learn more about the game, the strategy of the other teams and continue to provide us better strategy.

What other suggestions you have to use AI to come up with effective sport strategies? Would you suggest writing an AI agent that continues to poll for the results, analyzes it and shares strategies for the next game based on the schedule?

95% of Enterprise AI Project Fail

Despite $30–40 billion in enterprise investment into AI 95% Get Zero Return. Here are 3 changes that actually work. A healthcare SVP called me last month. Let's call her Samantha Jones. Her company was about to blow their AI budget on a CRM feature that would fail. The plan sounded reasonable: mine CRM data to find and rate the best leads for marketing and sales. Sales reps were already using GenAI individually for their accounts, so why not build it natively into the CRM? Here's why it would...
